4th International Athletics PSD Bank Meeting Duesseldorf 2009 - Olympic champion Robles to start in Duesseldorf

Already two months prior to the “4th International Athletics PSD Bank Meeting Duesseldorf 2009” at the Arena Sportpark on February 13, Olympic hurdles champion Dayron Robles has already confirmed his participation.

Already at last year’s event in the capital of North-Rhine Westphalia, the athlete from Cuba provided the sporting highlight when he missed Colin Jackson’s indoor World record by a hair’s breadth. Robles achieved the second best time ever when he clocked 7.33 seconds in the 60m hurdles event. Almost four months later, at Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Robles set a World outdoor record in the 110m hurdles, clocking 12,87 seconds. And to top the 2008 season, the 22-year-old then captured the Olympic gold medal in Beijing.

“I’m sure that we’ll be able to present again an international top field of entries”, explained Meeting Director Marc Osenberg, who wants to commit further top athletes to compete at the “4th International Athletics PSD Bank Meeting Duesseldorf 2009” in the upcoming weeks. For the fourth time, PSD Bank Rhein-Ruhr eG will act as sponsor of the meeting that will again be promoted by “sportAgentur” Duesseldorf.

The past two editions of the event at Arena Sportpark both ranked seventh in the world among all indoor meetings. The 2008 PSD Bank Meeting even ranked higher than events in New York, Boston or Athens. As Germany’s highest-ranked meeting boasting the coveted “EAA Status”, it still figures among the top three. In 2009, numerous athletes will surely benefit of the event as an important indicator for the upcoming World Championships in Athletics in Berlin on August 15-23.

TV station Eurosport will broadcast live (20:00-23:00 hrs) on the competition day.

Tickets for the Duesseldorf indoor meeting are available at www.athletics-meeting-duesseldorf.de  Children and young adults until the age of 18 will pay eight euros, adults 14 euros. The ticket price includes arrival and departure via the public transport system, ÖPNV.
